Philadelphia sculptor Phillip Sumptor will unveil a replica of William Still, the famous abolitionist who was known as the “Father of the Underground Railroad” for his unprecedented work with the Anti-Slavery Society, and for his recollections in the historic book The Underground Railroad.  Mr. Sumptor will unveil this model of William Still at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, in downtown Philadelphia, on June 27, 2003.

The unveiling is part of a press conference to kick-off the National Underground Railroad Family Reunion Festival, presented by the William Still Underground Railroad Foundation.  Along with Phillip Sumptor, Fran Aulston will help lead the fundraising campaign to secure a permanent location for the proposed bronze statue of William Still. The National Underground Railroad Family Reunion Festival will take place June 27-29 throughout the Philadelphia and South New Jersey area.
