  • Opening Reception with music and refreshments begins at 6:00 PM at Mercersburg Inn
  • Dr. LaTonya Thames-Taylor and the PA Past Players open discussion of My Confederate Kinfolk
    at 7:00 PM at Mercersburg Inn.

  • Doors of the Burgin Center open at 8:30 AM for Continental Breakfast. Opportunity to view
    three historic paintings of the 1862 Raid of J.E.B. Stuart by Ron Lesser.
  • 9:00 AM—11:00 AM—Local artifacts, art work, original muster rolls, and presentation by
    Dickinson College of the virtual Underground Railroad Project - “A House Divided”
  • 11:15 AM—1:00 PM—Tour of Zion Union Cemetery, Confederate graves at Fairview
    Cemetery, Mercersburg’s African American Community on Fayette Street and the Bethel
    A.M.E. Church. Zion Union Cemetery Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission Marker
    Dedication Ceremony
  • 1:15 PM—2:30 PM—Enjoy a period menu representing the Civil War-era cuisines of the North
    and South.
  • 2:45 PM— 3:45 PM— Discussion of local African American Community, Underground Railroad
    Routes, and U.S. Colored Troops
  • 4:00 PM—5:00 PM—Discussion of the Whig Party , James Buchanan and his views of slavery,
    and Civil War activity of Franklin County and the seizure of hostages and “contraband.”
